Veljko Paunović is a Serbian former professional footballer and current football manager. He was born on August 22, 1977, in Strumica, Macedonia.
As a player, Paunović had a successful career, playing as a midfielder for clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Getafe, and the Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer. He also represented the Serbian national team, earning 11 caps and scoring 3 goals.
After retiring as a player, Paunović transitioned into coaching and has managed various clubs, including the Serbian U-20 national team, where he achieved success by winning the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
In 2016, Paunović was appointed as the head coach of the Chicago Fire in MLS, leading the team to the playoffs in 2017 and winning the MLS Coach of the Year award. He later moved on to manage English Championship side Reading FC in 2020.
